For our audience who are not regular Social Media users, some exciting news from Whakatane based Frontier Helicopters. Last week they announced their intention to procure a Sikorsky UH60 Blackhawk utility helicopter.

Released 20 June 2018:

Finally, after 3 years the owners of Frontier Helicopters (Mark & Anna Law) are pleased to announce and shortly to offer, the Blackhawk UH60 to New Zealand, the Pacific and Australasia. The Blackhawk will be owned and operated wholly by Kiwis and offer heavy precision lift services which NZ is without.

The Hawk will be based in NZ and flown by experienced aerial work pilots to ensure all tasks are efficient, safe and professionally undertaken. All (3) of the Law Brothers will be part of the mix with Peter Law already experienced with the UH60 in the USA.

Together with the purchase we will be rebranding with a new website outlining all relevant information to inform customers and others of what we can do for them. Please keep an eye out for this update.

Frontier Helicopters have kindly advised the identity of the Blackhawk as being 86-24572, to be registered N160PA for its export to New Zealand during summer 2018/19.

I have very few Blackhawk helicopter photos! We've only ever had a handful of examples visit NZ.

Air Rarotonga have introduced their newly delivered Saab 340B to the airline's inter-island operation. Delivered under its former FAA marks of N368CL, the Saab arrived in Rarotonga on the morning of 17 July 2018 after the long haul journey from Bangor/ME via Lake Havasu City/AZ and Hilo/HI. It was quickly re-registered E5-SMW and airline name and logo added prior to its entry to service 23 July 2018 flying from Rarotonga to Aitutati and back.
SMW is already proving its worth with superior margin's over the A model flying higher and faster with improved payload and less fuel burn!

Departing Rarotonga on her first commercial service for the airline.

Meantime, Saab 340A E5-EFS was withdrawn from service late 21 July 2018 when it arrived at Rarotonga from Aitutaki and it departed the same night for Hilo/HI, Lake Havasu City/AZ and Bangor/ME.

Great news from Rarotonga today!

PRESS RELEASE

Air Rarotonga will soon replace its Saab 340A aircraft with a later model Saab 340B

Plus due to arrive in the Country late May.

While externally very similar, the 340B

Plus has more powerful engines, carries more payload, and has an active noise control system that significantly reduces cabin noise levels, improving passenger comfort.

The Company's outgoing Saab 340A entered service in 2000 and has provided the backbone of Air Rarotonga's schedule between Rarotonga and Aitutaki carrying more than a million inter-island passengers in that time.

"We are in our 40th year of inter-island service and our 340A has been in operation with us almost half of that time" said Air Rarotonga Managing Director Ewan Smith. " It has been a reliable workhorse operating the Aitutaki schedule with an accuracy you could almost set your watch by". We expect similar performance from the new aircraft.

The Saab 340B

Plus is presently in the USA undergoing heavy maintenance and a strip and new paint before it is delivered to the local airline.

END PRESS RELEASE
The "new" Saab 340B+, MSN 340B-368,  has been operating in Japan since new with Japan Air Commuter as JA8649 until its removal from service late last year and was re-registered N368CL with C&L Aerospace in mid February. The Saab will become E5-SMW, a personalised registration to acknowledge a long standing staff member.
E5-EFS will exit the fleet and its future remains to be confirmed.

The facility is well appointed with a varied collection of aircraft and always enthusiastic docents to share their knowledge.
