Michigan-based Kalitta Air, an air cargo transportation company providing scheduled and charter services, operate a fleet of 15 Boeing 747-400 freighters and have recently taken charge of 4 Boeing 767-300's to be converted to freighters.
It has been a number of years since the last Kalitta Air aircraft visited our shores so it was wonderful to have Boeing 747-400 freighter N782CK jet into Auckland in the predawn hours of 31 May after a journey from Ottawa/OT via a techstop at Honolulu as CKS566.
N782CK is a 2009 model -400HQ(F)ER and spent the first two years of its life in storage at both Paine Field and later at Marana Air Park before its induction to the Kalitta fleet in late 2011.
The 747 departed Auckland during the early hours of 01 June destined for Hong Kong as CKS9218.
Meanwhile two locally based freighters flew from Auckland to Wellington and back 31 May with Tasman Cargo Airlines Boeing 757-200 VH-TCA and Parcel Air Boeing 737-400 ZK-PAT making the round trip. Given the origin of N782CK it can safely be a$$umed the trio were carrying NZ currency manufactured by the Canadian Mint in Ottawa.
