While it was anticipated the Japanese might send either the maritime surveillance Kawasaki P-1 or medium transport Kawasaki C-2 to the RNZAF 80th anniversary Air Tattoo, it ended up sending a Japan Air Self Defense Force Boeing KC767 transport/tanker to be on static display for the duration of the show.
Boeing KC-767J 97-3603 arrived in Ohakea on the morning of 24 February direct from its Nagoya/Komaki base where it is operated by the 1st Tactical Air Lift Wing / 404 Squadron and used the callsign "Japan Air Force 404". It departed Ohakea 27 February for Avalon and from there returned to Komaki direct 02 March.
