The Royal Australian Air Force provided a number of aircraft in support of the RNZAF 80th Anniversary Air Tattoo at Ohakea late February.
F18 Hornets A21-39 and A21-102 arrived in Ohakea 23 February from their Newcastle/Williamtown base and their Tasman crossing was supported by Airbus A330MRTT A39-004 with the tanker flying from Amberley and conducting an approach and overshoot at Ohakea before proceeding for a fullstop landing at Auckland but not shutting down. It taxied back for a quick departure heading home to Amberley.
Hornet A21-39 conducted two airshow display practices 24 February and then flew on both show days while the two seat A21-102 also few both show days conducting simulated strikes on the airfield. The Hornets departed for Williamtown 27 February.
In support of the fighters, Boeing C17 Globemaster III A41-212 arrived Ohakea from Williamtown 23 February and remained on static display and open to the public for the show before departing early evening 26 February destined for Amberley. Another C17, A41-211, arrived Ohakea 28 February from Amberley.
Also visiting NZ during the show was Boeing BBJ A36-001. This aircraft arrived at Wellington 24 February from Canberra and departed 26 February for Melbourne.
