SOFIA returns

The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) heavily modified Boeing 747SP N747NA has made her way south to Christchurch for another 6 week stint studying the night skies across the Southern Ocean. As "NASA 747", the Stratospheric Observatory for Infrared Astronomy (SOFIA) touched down at Christchurch late morning 06 June having embarked the previous evening from her Palmdale, California base via a tech stop Joint Base Pearl Habor/Hickam.

On the subject of NASA 'four holers', there is talk their Douglas DC8-72 N817NA is set to make a brief visit to Christchurch in early August.
